Police probing “mischievous” allegations made about National Unity Monument
The Guyana Police Force has launched an investigation into what it describes as “mischievous allegations”
made by Desmond Alli about the National Unity Monument.
On Wednesday, Police, in a statement, said that Alli, the architect of the National Unity Monument, alleged that a member of the Presidential Guard claimed that he was instructed to remove the monument. The monument is located in the National Art Gallery, Castellani House compound.
According to the Police, Alli, in a letter to the editor under the headline ‘President Ali instructs demolition of National Unity Monument’, claimed that Ronford Liverpool, acting on the instruction of the President, told him that the National Unity Monument is “to be demolished, as it poses a threat to Guyana’s National Security.”
Liverpool, of the Presidential Guard, has since denied having any interaction or conversation whatsoever with the purported letter-writer.
The Presidential Guard also informed Police that he does not know a Desmond Alli, and as such the allegations are “mischievous, misleading and out to create public mischief”.
Liverpool, through his supervisor, has since lodged a formal complaint with the Police. An investigation has commenced.
