Pouderoyen FC questions lack of compromise from WDFA after walkover loss to Beavers FC

Pouderoyen Football Club (FC) has raised concerns over what it described as a lack of compromise from the West Demerara Football Association (WDFA) after being handed a walkover defeat in their most recent fixture against Beavers FC in the WDFA Senior Men’s League.
According to a club representative, who spoke on condition of anonymity, Pouderoyen FC had formally informed the association on April 9 that it would be unable to play the fixture owing to an invitation to attend the commissioning of the Guyana-China Friendship Park. The club noted that an informal notice had also been communicated via WhatsApp prior to the formal correspondence.
The issue stems from a series of weather-related disruptions to the competition schedule. Two consecutive weekends of fixtures were washed out after a prolonged period of heavy rainfall, forcing the WDFA to make adjustments. It is understood that matches from the first affected weekend, including a fixture between Westside Alliance and Beavers FC, were moved to the back end of the tournament.

However, Pouderoyen FC claims that the same approach was not applied across the board. The second set of postponed fixtures, which included the scheduled encounter between Pouderoyen FC and Beavers FC, was instead brought forward and rescheduled for April 12. This date had originally been designated for a different fixture involving Pouderoyen FC and #1 All-Stars.

A default 3-0 win was awarded to Beavers FC

The Pouderoyen representative told this publication that despite notifying the association of their prior commitment, no accommodation was made. On the day in question, the team were in attendance at the park’s opening ceremony, where Captain Darrell Abrams delivered the vote of thanks on behalf of the club and residents of Region Three.
Further concerns were raised over perceived conflicts of interest, with the club noting that the WDFA Vice President is a former President of Beavers FC.
In a document seen by this publication, Beavers FC was awarded a 3-0 victory via walkover following Pouderoyen FC’s absence.
