Probe launched into alleged tasing of civilian at Cove and John Police Station

The Cove and John Police Station is once again in the spotlight following an incident involving a 31-year-old male last Sunday. The incident was reported to have been captured on video, after which it was posted on social media, prompting a probe.
Thus far, Police stated that at about 23:30h last Sunday, the 31-year-old male was arrested by traffic ranks for dangerous driving and taken to the Cove and John Police Station.
While at the station, a confrontation ensued between the man and a rank after it was observed that he was recording with his cellular phone inside the station. The man subsequently alleged that he was tased during the incident. He later made an official report that is currently being investigated.
The Guyana Police Force wishes to assure the public that the matter is under investigation. Police also noted that efforts are underway to obtain a statement from the complainant as investigations continue.
Only last week, 30-year-old Otis John Jordan Payne of South Haslington, East Coast Demerara (ECD), died while in Police lockup at the Cove and John Police Station.
