Public Health Ministry mulls establishment of Nurses’ College

In an effort to address the human resources aspect in the health sector, the Public Health Ministry is seeking to acquire 30 acres of land to establish a college for nurses, as a way to build capacity.

“A college, where all tiers of persons within the nursing profession will be given the opportunity to improve themselves. Where, for example, we can have modern technology that will allow for simulations whether it is with a university in the United States, Russia or Cuba. Students can be right here in Guyana and be connected to those classes,” Public Health Minister Volda Lawrence is quoted by the Department of Public Information as saying.
This was highlighted by the Minister during the observations for the 90th anniversary of the Guyana Nursing Association (GNA). This initiative is one of many that the Ministry has planned as it continues to development of the healthcare services in Guyana.
“We want to ensure also that at the end of the day, irrespective of where our people would like to reside because the world is becoming a very small place that we continue to have the necessary resources we need in Guyana”.
The Minister pledged that her Ministry will continue to work assiduously towards achieving the Health vision 2020.
