Region 6 teen cops GPF Spelling Bee championship

Fourteen-year-old Jaya Roopnarain of Regional Police Division No 6 won the final of the Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) National Spelling Bee competition which was held on Saturday.

Roopnarain was competing in the Spelling Bee competition for the first time, which was held at the Officers’ Training Centre at Eve Leary.
Second place went to Chavelle Solomon, 12, of Regional Police Division No 2 while coming in third was Shakeina Dublin, 14, of Regional Police Division No 10. The spell-off followed several heart-stopping rounds.

The other participants that reached the final were Shania Walcott, 13, of Region No 3; Janiya Thomas, 14, of Region No 4C and Colvis Innis, 13, of Region 5.
Some of the prizes handed over to the participants included medals, trophies, and bicycles for the first, second and third-place winners.
The final of the Spelling Bee was chaired by Head of the Police Community Relations Department Superintendent Cristal Robinson.
Among those present were Deputy Commissioner ‘Operations’ Ravindradat Budhram; Commander of Regional Police Division No 5, Kurleigh Simon; Commander of Regional Police Division No 2, Khemraj Shivbaran; Commander of Police Regional Division No 10, Hugh Winter; Head of IT, Senior Superintendent Jermaine Johnson, and other senior and junior officers, ranks and special invitees.
