Resumption of U15 inter-county tournament: Berbice looking to fine-tune grey areas, says Coach Solomon

Berbice Under-15 Coach Leslie Solomon has said the areas in which his boys would be looking to improve their performance are running between the wickets and bowling less extras.

The Berbice team currently leads the points’ standings in the Guyana Cricket Board’s (GCB’s) Dave West Indian Imports and Exports Under-15 inter-county tournament with 9.4 points, with a superior net run rate of 3.1.
Speaking exclusively with this daily publication at Bourda, where the third-round match between Essequibo and Berbice was washed out, Solomon said the Berbicians have performed well in general, but there is room for improvement.
“We were competitive in the first round, even though some areas in our cricket need improvement. Those areas are: the amount of extras that we conceded, and the running between the wickets. The general out-fielding and catching, we need to improve on that,” Solomon said.
He added: “The mere fact that we were able to bat 50 overs at this level is good, it is an accomplishment by itself. We had some good performances with the bat. Adrian Hetmyer has another year at this level, along with Arif Khan; he has another year, along wth Rovin Boodwah.”
Based on recent information communicated by the GCB, the tournament dates are still unconfirmed, and administrators have deferred a decision in regard to play in the finals, to be determined after consultations with all stakeholders.
The tournament was launched on April 21, and got underway with two matches at unfamiliar inter-county venues. Demerara played Essequibo at the Imam Bacchus Ground on the Essequibo Coast, and Berbice battled Rising Stars Select XI at the Number 69 Ground in Berbice.
Demerara prevailed by 76 runs according to the Duckworth Lewis and Stern (DLS) method, while, in the second round, played at the Everest Cricket Club ground, Rising Stars prevailed over Essequibo by 4 wickets.
At the conclusion of the preliminary rounds, the points’ standing saw both Berbice and Demerara on 9.4 points, with Berbice being adjudged the leading team by a higher net run rate. As mentioned, the Berbice net run rate stands at 3.1, while Demerara’s net run rate is 2.63. Rising Star Select X1 accrued 5.2 points, while Essequibo managed only 1.2 points. (Brandon Corlette)
