RHTY&SC congratulates Foster on Medal of Service award

The management and members of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club (RHTY&SC) congratulates Secretary/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Hilbert Foster on being named in the National Awards list announced recently by the Guyana Government.
Foster was awarded the Medal of Service for his outstanding service to youth development, sports and making positive differences in the lives of others.
Foster, at the tender age of 21, founded the RHTY&SC in 1990. The Club, which started as a simple cricketing organisation, has over the last 29 years grown into Guyana’s leading youth and sports club with an unmatched list of activities and achievements.
RHTY&SC is the only youth and sports organisation in the history of Guyana to have received a National Award and, every year, organises over 700 events under a wide range of activities.
Foster has touched and changed the lives of countless youths on the cricket field, in other sporting disciplines, and in the educational sector, and has also spearheaded the Say No/Say Yes Programme of Guyana’s largest Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO). Over the years, during his elder brother’s tenure as BCB President, he transformed Berbice cricket and is currently doing so again in his capacity as President.
Since his election as BCB President last year, Foster has singlehandedly raised over $12 million for the development of the game; organised over 35 tournaments (the most in Berbice’s history) and has spearheaded the rebirth of Berbice cricket after a long period of dormancy. The township now enjoys a modern sports facility, all-weather court, 175th Anniversary Monument, a paved tarmac at the Rose Hall Town Primary School, and a children’s playfield among other amenities owing to Foster’s hard work. He also led the restoration of his former school, the Lower

The Club also acknowledged the support he has received from his friends, family, and sponsors of the RHTY&SC.

Ming’s, Caribbean Containers Inc and Bakewell support RHTY&SC 2019 list of programmes
Meanwhile, RHTY&SC plans for 2019 continue to attract support from corporate Guyana.
The Club has set itself a target of 700 activities for 2019 under a number of sub-headings including sports, cricket development, coaching, community development, education, charity, youth development, and climate change. The latest donors to come on board are Ming’s Products and Services, Bakewell, and Caribbean Containers Inc.
Foster stated that the 10 cricket teams of the Club, its Over-35 Group and management hope to surpass the target of 700 activities by December 23, 2019, when they would be hosting the fifth edition of the Rose Hall Town Christmas Village.
Colin Ming of Ming’s Products and Services donated a large quantity of balls towards the RHTY&SC Cricket Developmental Programme. The RHTY&SC in 2018 totally dominated cricket in the Ancient County by winning 13 titles and securing three runners-up finishes. Additionally, 17 of its members represented Guyana or Jamaica at the regional level. Foster stated that the balls would be used for matches at the junior level and also for practice sessions in the afternoons.
Caribbean Containers Inc made a financial contribution towards the Club’s highly successful Say No/Say Yes Campaign, which targets 60,000 youths in Berbice. The RHTY&SC in 2019 will organise schoolchildren rallies, educational competitions in schools, sporting events, and youth inspiration forums while providing assistance to less fortunate students among other activities.
Bakewell, a long-time sponsor of the Club, made a financial donation towards purchasing a case of trophies for the 29th annual Awards Ceremony, which is to be held on Sunday, April 28. Over 80 Club members, retired teachers, law enforcement officers, teachers of the year and students are to be honoured during the Awards Ceremony.
Bakewell also contributed financially towards the 20th edition of the RHTY&SC Annual Youth Review Magazine.
The 40-page magazine highlights the work of the Club in 2018, with profiles of several outstanding members and articles of interest for youths on a wide range of topics, including climate change, the importance of education, HIV/AIDS and importance of discipline.
Assistant Secretary/CEO Simon Naidu expressed gratitude to Patricia Bacchus of Caribbean Containers Inc, Rajin Ganga of Bakewell and Colin Ming of Ming’s Products and Services.
