Rising Stars blow away La Grange in one-sided affair
Malvern T20 Tournament…
In the second round of the Malvern T20 Cricket Tournament, the Rising Stars cricket club took on their La Grange All Stars counterparts at the Canal #1 ground, and blew them away in a one-sided affair.
The victorious Rising Stars team
This is the Rising Stars’ second consecutive win of the tournament.
The Rising Stars have had the upper hand against the La Grange side in past encounters, but with La Grange showing some level of improvement in recent times, the challenge was worth the wait.
Rising Stars won the toss and asked La Grange All Stars to bat first. La Grange made excellent use of their overs in the early part of the game, setting a stable foundation with runs flowing at a constant rate. However, in the latter part of their innings, they began to falter as they looked to up the ante. Wickets fell in clusters, and they were bowled out for 133 scored in 18.5 overs.
The La Grange principal scorers were George Carrington with 23 and John Blair with 18; while the Rising Stars’ principal bowlers were left-arm spinner Shane Persaud, who captured 4-20 in 4 overs; Darren France, who claimed 2-20; and Nikosi Major, who took a wicket for 16 runs.
Having restricted La Grange to a simple total, the Rising Stars side commenced their innings by unsettling the La Grange bowlers, who seemingly could get nothing right as they struggled to find the right line and length.
Rising Stars reached their target in 16.1 overs, with Duane Gouveia contributing the top score of 33 even as Elroy Fernandes added 20 and Shane Persaud 19. Bowling for La Grange, who could not prevent the 6-wicket triumph, Greg Singh returned figures of 2-25 and C. Thomas 2-18.
