River View are champions of Bartica

Guinness Greatest of the Streets…

The Bartica Zone of the Guinness Greatest of the Streets Football Tournament concluded on Sunday evening at the Community Centre Tarmac with River View being crowned the champion team after defeating Police 1-0 on penalty kicks.
The match ended 2-2 with Garvin Gentle (5th) and Mark Boyce (12th) placing Police ahead but the duo of Stephen Edwards and Anzel Edwards had other idea when they scored in the 13th and 26th respectively.
For the win, River View went home with $400,000  and the championship trophy while Police won $150,000.
River View will advance to represent the mining community in the Nationwide finals billed for next month. This will featuring the top zone teams from Georgetown, East Coast Demerara, Linden, Berbice West Demerara/East Bank Demerara.
In the third-place play-off between Campbellville and Potaro Strikers the former won 2-0 on penalty kicks. Campbellville pocketed $75,000 while the Strikes received $50,000.
Meanwhile in the semi-final fixtures, River View defeated Campbellville 3-2 via double from Romario Lake (23rd and 28th) and an earlier goal by Andel Norton in the 4th; Campbellville goals came off the heels of Marvin Jacobs in the 17th and 19th.
In the other semi-final , Police soared to a 2-0 victory over Potaro Strikers with Roderick Hamilton (24th) and Mark Boyce (26th) being the marksmen.
