The Public Works Ministry has issued a public advisory urging motorists to exercise extreme caution while travelling through 83 Miles, Kwakwani, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice), after a section of the roadway was partially washed away due to heavy rainfall and rising floodwaters.
According to the Ministry, the damage occurred along the interior corridor following recent torrential rains that affected the area.
Drivers, particularly operators of heavy-duty vehicles, are being advised to significantly reduce their speed and follow the directions of local authorities when navigating the affected section of the road.
The Ministry said the measures are necessary to protect public safety and prevent further deterioration of the roadway.
An emergency response and action plan has already been activated to address the situation.
As part of the response, an emergency contractor has been formally engaged by the Ministry to undertake rehabilitation and emergency reinstatement works at the damaged section.
The Ministry said works are scheduled to commence on Thursday morning.
