In a match organized to keep the cricketers from the Ogle Cricket Club and the Rockaway Cricket Team (RCT)
active during their off season Rockaway defeated their warm hosts by six wickets.
The friendly T20 match was played on Sunday June 12 at the Ogle Community Centre Ground ended with the visiting team successfully chasing 109 runs to win.
Ogle with home advantage, were made to take first strike as RCT won the toss and elected to field. Despite a fighting half century from Andre Gomes Ogle were restricted to 108/8 off their allotted 20 overs.
Gomes showing good ability hit five boundaries (4×6’s and 1×4) in his top score of 52. S. McPherson made 17 that ensured the home team got to three figures but it was still inadequate in the end.
It was the pair of Kevins that ensured that Rockaway walk away the victors.
Kevin Rampersaud picked up 2 for 12 off 4 overs and Kevin Kowlessar 2 for 16 from his 4 overs.
When RCT began their run chase, they were asked to score at 5.45 runs per over to win. It took the efforts of the name sakes again to return with the bat to bring home the beacon.
Kowlessar scored 28 (3×6’s) while Rampersaud was equally destructive with 22 including two well-timed 4’s. K. Jaikarran also got among he runs with 25 (1×4 and 1×6).
Ogle tried desperately to restrict RCT, but could not make inroads into RCT strong batting line up and only managed to pick up four wickets.
Bowling for Ogle, Khemraj Dingyal and M. Pooran claimed 1/18 off 4 overs and 1/14 of 3 overs respectively.
Both teams were considering a rematch in the near future.
