The 2022 edition of the Hero CPL has commenced as it is already into its second week of action. Guyana’s very own Sherfane Rutherford, who represents defending champions St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, is grateful for the chance to represent the franchise yet again and is working to maintain his form throughout the tournament.
In an interview with this publication, when asked his view on what he is most looking forward to, Rutherford said, “First I want to thank God for this opportunity for coming back to St Kitts. And me, I’m looking forward to CPL as the defending champion, it’s a bit of boost for me and I am looking to defend our title and as a team we are looking to go hard and keep it as competitive as possible. Form wise I am in a good space, I’m feeling good and I just want to keep it going, keep putting in that work and try and take this form as far as possible.”
The talented left hander also noted that as it relates to his aggression seen in the 6IXTY, he intends to take some form of that aggressiveness into CPL but with more intent. He explained that in the past he relaxed more in the first phase of his innings causing him to be too slow, however, he intends to bring a new level of aggressiveness added with match awareness as he seeks to take this mindset through the entire tournament. Touching on his fitness, the Guyanese relayed that it has been something he has been working on throughout the years. He touted that he is getting better and his body is getting better, which means he is getting to where he wants to be in terms of his fitness goals.
“My expectation in the CPL is to win, to back myself as well to play all of the games which means I have to perform. I don’t really set a lot of goals, but I want to play a lot of the games and I just want to win the CPL and I want to be consistent as possible, ‘cause that is something I struggle with, to be consistent and by God’s grace hopefully I can be consistent as possible,” he shared.
Rutherford further clarified that coming into another franchise outside of your home team has a lot of expectations as it is expected of the player to perform well. Nevertheless, he said that it was a confidence booster for him, because he wanted to do well and it motivates him to work hard as he sees it making him a better person in the long run.
Rutherford also showered his fans with much praise and thanked them for their support and urged them to continue supporting him and giving him motivation. He also thanked them for the messages and noted that while he may not be able to reply, he does read them and appreciates them. He also explained that for his fans he will continue to work hard and perform for them when he hits the field.
