The Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club and Sports Facility at Alness Village on the Corentyne Coast in East Berbice is scheduled to host a horse race meet this Sunday, November 25.
With several entries already confirmed for the card, which consists of seven categories, the day promises to be an exciting one. As the action is set to progress, horse racing fans will be able to witness the feature event known as the Alness Classic over 1400m in which the winner will compete for a winning purse of $500,000 and trophy. While the other events listed on the card will also see the event for I and lower horses over a distance of 1200m competing for a first prize of $240,000 and trophy.
The race for 2 Years Old maiden, over 1200m will carry a winning prize of $200,000 and trophy. There is an event for horses classified J3 and lower over 1000m for the take- home package of $170,000 and trophy.There are two events for three year old horses. One is for animals classified L and 3 years and up for fillies and mares over 1400m for a winner’s take of $100,000 and trophy.
The other race is for horses classified under the L and 3 years and up category, which is open to colts and geldings, also over 1400m for a first prize of $100,000 and trophy. The final event will see the L class animals that have not earned any money since, racing over a distance of 1000m. The winner will pocket a sum of $50,000 and trophy.
Individual trophies and other incentives will be given to riders who have performed exceptionally; the race is scheduled to start at 12:00h.
