West Indies Head Coach Daren Sammy has praised white-ball Captain Shai Hope, describing him as one of the finest One-Day International (ODI) batsmen produced by the Caribbean.
Speaking ahead of Hope’s latest career milestone, Sammy highlighted the Captain’s consistency, dedication and leadership, noting that his achievements are the result of years of hard work and preparation.
“I see him as one of our greatest ODI batsmen,” Sammy said. “His record and consistency speak for themselves. Having worked closely with him, there is no surprise to me when I see the numbers he continues to produce.”
Since making his ODI debut in 2016, Hope has established himself as one of the leading batsmen in the format. The Barbadian has scored more than 6000 runs, including 19 centuries and 31 half-centuries, while maintaining a batting average above 50.
The 32-year-old has been a key figure in the West Indies batting line-up for several years and remains among the world’s top-ranked ODI batsmen.
Sammy said Hope’s success is rooted in his attention to detail and commitment to improving his game.
“He pays a lot of attention to preparation and works extremely hard to remain consistent,” Sammy said. “Averaging more than 50 in ODI cricket is a special achievement, and he has been the leader of our batting unit.”
Since taking over as West Indies white-ball Captain, Hope has continued to lead from the front with both bat and leadership, helping to guide the team’s rebuilding process.
Sammy also congratulated Hope on reaching his latest milestone and expressed hope that the occasion would be marked with a victory for the West Indies. “So congratulations to you, Shai, on this milestone. Hopefully you and the rest of the team can make it a winning one,” Sammy said.
