Sarwan named for West Indies’ Over-40s World Cup campaign in Guyana

Former West Indies Captain Ramnaresh Sarwan has been selected to represent the regional side at the International Masters Cricket (IMC) Over-40s World Cup in Guyana from October 17–31, with fellow former skipper Denesh Ramdin appointed Captain.
Sarwan, 46, brings the experience of 87 Tests and 181 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) to the West Indies squad for the 45-over competition. He joins several other former senior internationals as the hosts prepare to compete in the tournament’s second edition.
The West Indies will begin their campaign against Australia at the National Stadium, Providence. Both teams are in Group A alongside defending champions South Africa, Sri Lanka, Namibia, Canada, Wales and Colombia.
The 16 participating teams have been divided into two groups, with the top two from each advancing to the semi-finals. The final will be played at Providence.
Ramdin, 41, represented West Indies in 74 Tests and 139 One-Day Internationals. His squad also includes former West Indies players Rayad Emrit, Sewnarine Chattergoon, Jason Mohammed and Devendra Bishoo, giving the team considerable international experience.
Trinidadian leg-spinner Imran Khan adds an extensive first-class background, having accumulated 450 wickets during a 114-match career. He is among the players with first-class experience selected for the tournament.
Hemnarine Chattergoon, the elder brother of Sewnarine, also brings international experience through his appearances for Canada. He previously represented the West Indies at the youth level.
Lawrence Farnum, the West Indies masters T20 Captain who was in Pakistan for last year’s T20 World Cup, has also been included. Rajendra Sadeo will serve as manager, while Julian Moore has been appointed coach.
Group B comprises England, New Zealand, the USA, Pakistan, India, Scotland, the Rest of the World XI and the Rest of the Caribbean XI.
Matches will be staged across Guyana, with Bourda, Albion and the recently built Anna Regina Stadium among the venues, alongside Providence.
The tournament is being organised by IMC in collaboration with the Cricket West Indies Masters Association. Guyana’s President, Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali, is the patron.
This year’s competition follows the inaugural edition held in Cape Town, South Africa, two years ago.
