Shiva Boys, Waramadong start on a high note

KFC Goodwill Tournament…

Lessons in humility were taught at the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF’s) Training Facility at Providence, EBD on Monday afternoon when victors of the first two preliminary games suffered tough losses as the Petra-organized KFC Goodwill Tournament continued.

It was all net for Dorwin George as he shot from the penalty mark

The Shiva Boys Hindu College made a great claim to their title retention when they brushed aside a once dominant Annai Secondary, while Waramadong schooled the Guyoil/Tradewind Tankers Champions, Lodge Secondary.
Coming off of a thrilling 6-1 victory over Marian Academy on Saturday last, Lodge Secondary had the necessary momentous ammunition heading into the first encounter of the day against an untested Waramadong.
The teams took a while to get comfortable with each other’s playing style, but thereafter Waramadong wasted no time in decorating the score sheet.
Ovid Andrews was the first to find the back of the net, in the 35th minute. Trailing closely behind, Whitaker Paul made it a double with a goal in the 35th, to put Lodge under serious pressure.

Lodge Secondary fought valiantly but could not hold Waramadong

While the Lodge slippage can be attributed to their missing goalkeeper Rashad Roberts, his stand-in, Joshua Denny, represented well, as he held off a hail of shots which could have made the score sheet even more alarming.
A penalty opportunity afforded to Lodge paved the way for their consolation goal, as Dorwin George made no mistake from the penalty mark in the 53rd minute.
Ovid Andrews hammered the final nail in the Lodge coffin in the 67th minute to give Waramadong a 3-1 victory.
The Shiva Boys team seemed to have had a walk in the park against Annai Secondary, who had looked threatening in their first preliminary game.
Starting on a high note, Annai had brushed aside Annandale Secondary by a 9-1 margin, and had looked as though they would pose a challenge to their Trinidadian counterparts.
They flattered to deceive on Monday, as the defending champions kept Annai quiet for the entire encounter.
Captain Adica Ash put on a brilliant performance for the team from the twin-island republic, as his hat trick comprised goals scored in the 23rd, 66th and 89th minutes for his team’s 3-0 win.
The final preliminary games will be contested tomorrow (Wednesday, December 18), when Annandale Secondary take on Shiva Boys Hindu College at 1pm, and Waramadong go toe-to-toe with Marian Academy at 3pm.
The semifinals and final will be contested on Friday, December 20 and Sunday, December 22.
