Satiricus was smiling. And this pleased his buddy Cappo as much as the information that September had been the hottest month in the history of the planet. He didn’t have to argue too much with his wife about slipping out to the Back Street Bar to “cool off”. A smiling Satiricus meant he didn’t have to pay for the beers.
“Suh wha’ mek yuh suh happy, Sato?” he asked as they took their first swig from their sweating bottles.
“You wouldn’t believe this! “Satiricus exclaimed.
“Try me, na,” replied Cappo laconically.
“I’m really green with envy,” Satiricus continued. “How come my Editor hadn’t thought of it?”
“Ah wha’ yuh talk about?”Cappo demanded. “Me nam?n’ readahyuh know!”
“Well you know I read the Chronic on my computer in the morning, don’t you?” Satiricus asked Cappo who nodded. “Well imagine my surprise when I saw that all the top headlines and picture borders were in green!”
“Suh wha special ’bout da?” Cappo wanted to know.
“My friend, that means the Editor understands the philosophy of the Government,” said Satiricus who still couldn’t contain his excitement. “And he is conveying it without words!”
“Me still na know wha’ yuh talk bout,” Cappo confessed.
“Sometime I wonder about you, Cappo,” said Satiricus shaking his head. “THE CHRONIC’S GONE GREEN!! This is the philosophy of the Government!”
“An’ ‘e na gat nutten fuh do wid APANU collla green?” Cappo asked Satiricus in disbelief.
“Why do you always have to be so cynical,” Satiricus demanded. “First of all, no self-respecting Editor would agree to use a party colour as his paper’s colour.”
“Really?” said Cappo with a snort.
“Yes, really! The paper is owned by the state and not the Government,” insisted Satiricus. “And secondly, it’s a coalition Government and the parties COLOURS are green and yellow!”
“An’ yuh really t’ink yuh yella KFC party gat any say in dis?” Cappo wanted to know.
“Of course!”Satiricus assured his friend. “Even Nagga Man and the Jhaat gone green now!”
Cappo didn’t say anything. He wanted to continue enjoying free beer.
