St Joseph’s High School has received a significant donation of sporting equipment aimed at strengthening its sports programme and creating greater opportunities for student-athletes.
The presentation was made by Shaquawn Gill on behalf of the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Steven Jacobs, fulfilling a commitment the minister made during a recent visit to the school.

The donation included basketballs, footballs, cricket gear, and a range of other sporting equipment designed to support physical education and extracurricular sports. School officials believe the new resources will help students participate more actively in sports while developing their athletic skills and teamwork.
The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport said the donation reflects its continued commitment to ensuring that schools, clubs, and community organisations across Guyana have access to the resources needed to promote sports development and nurture young talent.
For Gill, the occasion held special significance. A proud alumnus of St Joseph’s High School, he described the handover as a meaningful opportunity to give back to the institution that played an important role in his life.
“It was a privilege to hand over the sporting equipment and contribute to the continued growth of the school’s sports programme,” Gill said, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to support future generations of students.
The donation is expected to enhance the school’s sporting activities and encourage greater student participation in athletics, reinforcing the shared goal of developing well-rounded young people through sport.
