St. Rose’s High School ran rampant against an eight-man Marian team in soggy conditions at the Guyana Defence Force Ground (GDF), as the Digicel Schools Under-18 Football Championships continued on Wednesday in Georgetown.
A Kegan Howard double with supporting goals from Akil Vaughn, La Phonso Austin and Victor Rogers lead the Church Street School a five-nill trouncing of Marian Academy.
Howard opened the scoring in the seventh minute when he manoeuvred his way through two defenders and placed the ball in the right bottom. The next goal occurred due to confusion with the Marian defenders just on the edge of the box and Vaughn wasted no time in capitalising with goal in the 23rd minute.
Howard’s second goal in the 26th, was one which required a tad more skill. While running to goal, Howard collected a ball from the right wing which he steered into the right side of the uprights.
Though Marian had some offensive set plays, their lack of man power hampered and strong challenge on goal but St. Roses continued their dominance as the diminutive Austin received a pass from the left wing and unleashed a powerful shot into the right of the box.
Ten minutes after the half time interval, Rogers pounced on a loose ball just outside the box and helped himself to the final goal in the comprehensive victory.
Over at the Tucville ground, St. Mary’s Secondary defeated St. Stanislaus 4-2 in an action packed game that swung back and forth early in the first half. Alyne Haynes, James Wallcott, Oneil Glasgow and Dominick Bottse in the 28th, 38th, 40th and 83rd respectively were the goal scorers for the victors while for St. Stanislaus Alvin Andries in the 75th and Kenroy Earle six minutes later inked their names on the score sheet.
