Suriname snatch title in thrilling win

Guyana played with much ferocity in a do or die situation at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) on Sunday as they went down to Suriname in the second match up between the males from the two nations in the Inter Guiana Games (IGG).
This meant that Suriname were crowned champions after they assented to a 66-63 victory at the end of the fourth quarter, registering their second win in as much games.
Guyana showed they were worth their weight in gold as they took command of the game from the first quarter where they led the Dutch-speaking nation 19-15. The Guyanese then extended their lead by half time to five points with the score 29-24.

an easy win but with the visitors shooting 21 points in the third quarter and Guyana only managing 12, the game had took a turn that had the hundreds of jovial fans in CASH biting their nails as to what would be one of the closest contest in IGG Basketball.
Guyana’s point guard Troy David’s scored in quick succession, registering 10 points in the final quarter, sending the hosts back in the lead and Travis Belgrave scoring only one of his two free throws, signalled an edgy 35-second final as everyone in CASH stood on their feet.
But Emile La Rose scoring both free throws and a layup before the buzzer, Suriname had sealed the title with a simple two points, finishing the game on 66-63 in favour of the Dutch nation.
Guyana’s talent, Stanton Rose finished with the most points, 21 while Captain Nathan Saul had ten points in the game, as Darcell Leter 17 points, Jamil Wip 13 points, and Bioron Ewijk 10 points were the top scorers for Suriname.
