Suspected thief beaten with metal pipe

A South Mibicuri, Black Bush Polder, Berbice labourer who is accused of stealing is now hospitalised after he was allegedly beaten with a metal pipe by his accuser.
The injured man was identified as 60-year-old Floyd James, a labourer of South Mibicuri while the suspect is a 24-year-old man who is now in Police custody.
Preliminary Police investigations revealed that at about 01:30h on Monday, a resident who was heading home reportedly heard screams and someone begging “don’t beat me no more”.
Upon investigating, James was seen lying on the access road while the suspect was seen standing over him with a metal pipe. He was reportedly lashing the victim about the body.
The suspect reportedly accused the now injured man of stealing a quantity of zinc sheets and wood from his yard. However, the resident instructed the suspect to desist from beating the man but instead, he became annoyed and made advances towards him.
An alarm was raised and persons rushed out and rescued the two men.
James was taken to the Mibicuri Public Hospital where he was treated and transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital. He was admitted a patient in a stable condition.
The Police have since arrested that suspect, who remains in custody. He is expected to be charged before the end of the week.
