A 38-year-old taxi driver is in police custody after ranks allegedly discovered more than 14 kilograms of cannabis, an unlicensed revolver and ammunition during a search of his New Amsterdam home.

Police said the operation was conducted at about 11:45h on Tuesday at the man’s residence at Shoe Lane, New Amsterdam, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) after ranks acted on information received.
According to investigators, during the search, police found several parcels wrapped in transparent plastic containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis concealed inside two blue plastic barrels.
Police alleged that the man admitted ownership of the suspected cannabis after being cautioned.
A further search of the house led to the discovery of a silver-coloured .38 Special revolver, bearing serial number UA852487, along with six matching rounds of ammunition hidden inside a wooden chest of drawers.
The suspect was arrested after being cautioned about the alleged offences of unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition without a licence.
He was escorted to the Central Police Station, where the cannabis was weighed in his presence and amounted to 14.650 kilograms.
The suspect remained in custody pending charges.
