Home Sports Teams looking to regroup after rain-affected second round
Following a semi rain-interrupted second round, teams will now be shifting focus to round three of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)/Jaguars 50 Overs League which bowls off today. Action will see East Coast playing Georgetown at Enterprise, while Essequibo battle East Bank at the Imam Bacchus Ground in Essequibo. Defending champions Lower Corentyne will tackle Upper Corentyne at the Albion Ground and West Berbice will face West Demerara at Bush Lot Ground.
Round two on Tuesday saw the game at Everest between Georgetown and Essequibo and Upper Corentyne and West Demerara Tuschen; being abandoned without a ball being bowled, due to rain.
East Coast suffered a six run loss at the hands of West Berbice in another low-scoring encounter. West Berbice were bowled out for 145 in 37.2 after spinner Amir Khan grabbed 4-33 but East Coast chasing a low total, were then rattled for 140 despite knocks from; Chandrapaul Hemraj (35), Kamesh Yadram (29) and Khan (30).
West Indies A and Guyana Jaguars pacer Keon Joseph had a good match with 3-17 while Stephen Harris bowled well to end with 4-15 for West Berbice.
Lower Corentyne recorded an easy 8 wicket win over East Bank in another low-scoring match, after East Bank folded for 99 in 31.1 despite Sherfane Rutherford’s 22. Off-spinner Sharaz Ramcharran bagged 4-20 with support coming from ace left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul who opted to play for his franchise following the Regional 4-Day break, making full use of his time by snatching up 3-17.
National youth batsman Kevlon Anderson who made 40 and veteran Gajanand Singh who chipped in with 37; were the stars for Lower Corentyne during the chase which they completed in 22.4 overs to end on 102-2. Round three’s matches are set to bowl off form 9:00am, weather permitting.
