“The club will not tolerate disorderly conduct,” says Crawford

The Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club and Sports Facility (CMTCSF) at Alness Village on the Corentyne Coast in East Berbice has postponed its October 13th race meet to November 17, 2019.

Part of the action that occurred on June 2 at the CMTC track

This is to facilitate the Jumbo Jet Car and Bike Show, which will be held at Bush Lot, West Coast Berbice, Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice).
Thus far, over 20 horses have been confirmed for the event, which consists of seven categories of races; thus the day promises to be an exciting one.
Speaking to Guyana Times Sport in regard to this development, Memorial Turf Club President Marcel Crawford Jr said: “We have had a lot of horses registering for the event. Despite the date being shifted, we are confident that on the chosen date, the excitement will still be there, as horse-racing fanatics come out in their numbers. As you know, one of the feature events will be the Alness Classic, which will be tabled as the Crawford Memorial Stakes in honour of my parents. We are happy to have Banks DIH as a major sponsor, Poonai Pharmacy, Jumbo Jet and many others. Come the day of the race, we at the club will not tolerate misconduct, so we are asking everyone to come out and support and enjoy themselves.”
The feature event of that meet is the Alness Classic race, set to be run over a distance of 1200 metres for a winning purse of $240,000 and trophy.
The race for the H & Lower category of animals will also be run over a distance of 1200 metres, and will have a winner’s purse of $240,000 and a trophy.
Other events listed on the card are as follow: The J and Lower horses will race over a distance of 1000 metres for a first prize of $200,000 and a trophy.
The race for 2-Year-Old maiden horses will be run over 900 metres for a winning prize of $150,000 and a trophy.
The L1 and Lower race for horses 3 years old and over, to be run over 1000 metres for the winner’s prize of $100,000 and a trophy.
The L2 and Lower race for horses 3 years old and older will be run over 1000 metres for a winner’s prize of $80,000.
And the L3 Unclassified race, wherein animals would be covering a distance of 1200 metres for a winner’s prize of $60,000.
This meet will be run under the rules of the legislative draft of the late Marcel Crawford. All bookings must be done with a deposit of $5000; and if there are less than five horses in a race, the prize will be reduced.
Individual trophies and other incentives will be given to riders who have performed exceptionally well at the meet.
