An investigation is underway after a Guyanese youth was fatally stabbed in New Jersey, United States of America, on Saturday morning, authorities said.
An article published on the RSL media website in New Jersey, New York, stated that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office was notified of the stabbing incident that has left one person dead in Newark’s North Ward.
The report added that just before 03:20h on Saturday morning, Police officers responded to reports of a person stabbed in the vicinity of Lincoln Avenue, New Jersey.
When officers arrived, they found a youth suffering stab wounds.
Police said the victim was pronounced dead a short time later.
“The motive for the stabbing is under an active and ongoing investigation and no arrests have been immediately reported,” the article read.
Nevertheless, family members in Guyana have identified the youth as 23-year-old Nimron Corlette, who is originally from Sheriga Scheme, Enmore North, East Coast Demerara.
A family member who spoke with this publication said that the family was told that the incident stemmed from a confrontation between Corlette and a man who dropped home someone close to the victim who was in New Jersey babysitting his child.
As a result of the injuries he sustained, Corlette allegedly buckled and fell to the ground and subsequently died, the relative said.
