A 20-year-old Venezuelan construction worker from Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo (EBD) is now nursing a gunshot injury following a shooting incident at Parika on Saturday evening. Based on reports received, a 62-year-old farmer from Parika, EBE claimed that he was at home when he heard a sound coming from his front door. As such, the farmer, who is a licensed firearm holder, went to inquire and reportedly observed the victim under a shed on his property. The farmer, police stated, reportedly discharged two rounds from his firearm in the direction of the young man, which struck him in his upper right abdomen area.
The injured Venezuelan was taken to the De Kinderen Regional Hospital, where he was treated and admitted as a patient. The matter was subsequently reported to the police, and a probe was initiated. The licensed firearm, five live rounds of ammunition, and two spent shells were lodged at the Parika Police Station pending the outcome of the investigation.
