Waramadong maul Bartica 6-0 to claim Region 7 title

A ruthless Waramadong side completely outclassed Bartica to win the Region 7 Zone final via 6 goals without response on Friday at the Ministry of Education ground on Carifesta Avenue.
Despite the touchlines being reduced to swamps due to heavy rainfall the previous night, the Waramadong players played attractive and attacking football stringing together sensible passes and created chances.
It was no surprise that Waramadong took the lead in the 9th minute through their Centre Midfielder Whitaker Paul who finished crisply after a cross from the right flank found him unmarked in the box.

Striker Colin Edwards doubled his side’s lead four minutes later when he struck a right- footed shot from 15 yards out to beat Bartica’s custodian at his near post.
Bartica were lucky not to lose by a larger margin as their keeper made a string of saves to deny the roving Waramadong forwards who constantly peppered him with powerful shots.
Reon McNaughton was the most dangerous of the forwards as he made the left wing his own, constantly making runs and cutting in to unleash his powerful right foot to devastating effects.
It was not long until he added his name to the score sheet after taking on two defenders before shifting on to his right foot to hit the ball low and hard into the back of the net in the 22ndminute.  Just before halftime in the 37th minute he produced almost a carbon copy of his first goal as he again cut in from the left flank to strike another low shot at the far post beating the keeper to extend his side’s lead to 4-0.
The ragged Bartica side went into the halftime break without conceding anymore goals, however upon resumption they were again forced to sit deep in their own half in an attempt to repel the constant attacks of Waramadong’s forwards.
Devon Nathan added his name to the scoresheet in the 56th minute when he hit one from just inside the box to the left of the goalie to make it 5-0 Waramadong. He would return to seal his brace and his team’s victory in the 76th minute with a well taken goal.
The Region 7 champions will now face the Region 3 zone winners on Sunday at the Synthetic Track Facility, Leonora.
