Almost one week after 23-year-old Werford Vincent Trim and 36-year-old Tyrone Captain were stabbed to death during a brawl along Water Street, Georgetown, a sales representative was on Wednesday slapped with two counts of manslaughter.
Angelo Answick from Industry, East Coast Demerara (ECD), appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where the charges were read to him.
Police stated that he unlawfully killed Captain, a labourer of Eversham, Corentyne, Berbice, and Trim, also known as “Junior Browne”, a vendor of Durban Backlands, Georgetown, on August 7 along Water Street, Georgetown.
Estwick was represented by Attorney-at-Law Kiswana Jefford from the law firm of Hughes, Fields and Stoby, who made a bail application on his behalf. She told the court that Estwick was attacked by the two men and was defending himself on the day in question.
A Police Officer reportedly confirmed that CCTV footage disclosed that the two men had trailed Estwick to the place where the incident occurred, and that one of them had attacked him with a bottle before an altercation ensued.
Moreover, the court heard that another man, other than the two deceased, was involved in the incident with the defendant. He reportedly fled the scene.
After listening to the arguments presented by the attorney, Magistrate Daly set bail in the sum of $1.5 million. The accused is expected to return to court on September 23, 2026.
