The rescheduled Good Friday 40-Over Bash bowled off in exciting fashion on Saturday, April 11, at the historic Malteenoes Sports Club ground, where Western Warriors emerged as first-time champions of the tournament’s fifth edition.
The event, staged by One Movement Entertainment in collaboration with Ciarra’s (B) Enterprise, attracted a lively crowd eager for competitive cricket after the Good Friday fixture was postponed.
Winning the toss and opting to bat, South Raiders struggled to build meaningful partnerships and were bowled out for 130 in 31.2 overs. Despite a promising start, wickets fell at regular intervals, preventing the batting side from gaining momentum.
Lower-order batsmen Nityanand Mathura and Nitini Permaul top-scored with 23 runs each, providing some resistance after the top order faltered. Junior Sinclair contributed 20, but the lack of substantial partnerships ultimately proved costly.
Western Warriors’ bowlers shared the spoils in a disciplined display. Stephon Wilson, Mervin Permaul, Joshua Ferrell and Feyaad Lekhraj each claimed two wickets, keeping the Raiders’ scoring in check and ensuring the target remained within reach.
Chasing 131 for victory, the Warriors approached the task with composure. Ushardeva Balgobin set the tone early with a confident 28, laying the foundation for the run chase. Brandon Jaikaran anchored the innings with a patient 31 off 73 balls, while Jeremiah Hohenkirk added a fluent 35 from 48 deliveries to keep the scoreboard ticking.
With the target in sight, Joshua Ferrell and Owen Andrews calmly guided the team home as Western Warriors finished on 131 for five in 31.1 overs to seal a five-wicket victory.
The triumph marks a historic moment for Western Warriors, who were crowned champions for the first time in the tournament’s five-year history, capping off a disciplined all-round performance in front of their supporters at the MSC ground.
