Woman jailed, fined $798,000 for airport cocaine bust

The 23-year-old woman who was caught with cocaine stashed in her vagina, who also admitted to swallowing pellets with the illegal substance, has been fined and jailed for trafficking in narcotics.

Tameira Melville appeared on Thursday before Sparendaam Magistrate Rushelle Liverpool and the trafficking charge was read to hear. Melville pleaded guilty to the charge, which stated that on February 20 at the Eugene F. Correia International Airport, she had in her possession 775 grams of cocaine concealed in her vagina for the purpose of trafficking.
Following her guilty plea, Melville was fined $798,000 and jailed for four years.
It has been reported that, on February 20, the 23-year-old was an outgoing passenger on Caribbean Airlines flight #BW 215 destined for Barbados from the Eugene F Correia International Airport, Ogle, East Coast Demerara, when she was busted with the cocaine.
According to the Police, before boarding the flight, the woman was observed to be acting in a suspicious manner. As such, a physical search was conducted on her person, and a bulky package wrapped in condoms was found concealed in her vagina.
Following that discovery, the woman was arrested, and while being questioned by law enforcement officers, she also admitted to swallowing 73 cocaine-filled pellets.
She was taken to a city hospital, where the pellets were excreted. (G1)
