Women get bail for attempting to post narcotics to Mazaruni Prison inmate

Two women were on Friday granted bail in the sum of $60,000 each for allegedly attempting to post a quantity of narcotics and crystal methamphetamine to an inmate of the Mazaruni Prison on Wednesday at the Guyana Post Office Corporation.
Andrea De Florimote, 37, a housewife of Victoria Street Plaisance, East Coast Demerara (ECD), and Patrinea Bristol, 46, a vendor of Avocado Drive, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts where they pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Based on reports received, on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, officers of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) unearthed 6.3 grams of ganja and 5.4 grams of crystal methamphetamine in false walls of two lotion bottles.
The bottles were among head ties, jerseys and soaps in a box that was intended for an inmate of the Mazaruni Prison. Following the discovery, De Florimote was told of the offence, cautioned, arrested and escorted to CANU headquarters where she was interrogated.
During questioning, the woman told officers that she had collected the lotion bottles from Bristol. As such, she was subsequently arrested and taken to the CANU headquarters where she was questioned.
After investigations, the two women were charged and arraigned for trafficking in narcotics. They are expected to return to court on August 27, 2021.
