“You got to improve and we will improve” – Allen bracing for Elite League challenge

Recently-minted Elite League side Camptown Football Club is heading into Guyana’s premier football league, not to be bystanders but to compete evenly with the best in the country, according to Head Coach Calvin “Fluman” Allen.
No stranger to the League, Allen has previously led Elite League squads in the past and is quite familiar with what it takes to compete at the Guyana Football Federation (GFF)-run tournament.
In the aftermath of his team’s composed 2-0 victory over Timehri United FC, which saw them punching their ticket to the 2026/27 season of the League, Allen candidly reacted to re-entering the League, this time with a team that are yet to compete at that level.

A look at the battle between Camptown FC and Timehri United during the Elite League qualification playoff final

The Coach told Guyana Times Sport, “It’s a marvellous feeling, I’ll tell you, for more than one reason. One, it’s not the first time I’m bringing a team to the Elite League, in fact I did it a couple of times and more importantly, this group of players is only together a year and a half. In that year and a half, we have won the Georgetown league to qualify for this and then now we qualify for the Elite League.”
“I must say kudos to the guys, the management staff, our Executives, they really work hard. The players worked extremely hard, I couldn’t want a better bunch, everybody came together and bet their backs to make sure we achieve our goals.”
“Like I said, the timeframe in which we did it, from rebuilding a team last Easter to now, it’s a marvellous achievement, I think my best one ever,” he added.
Based on his knowledge of the Elite League, Allen admitted that his team will need some intensive work before they make their debut.
“I’ve been in the League since the days of National League so, I know how tough it is,” he explained, “We definitely got to strengthen in a few areas; in terms of players, personnel, we have a lot of work to do on strength and conditioning ‘cause the Elite League, it’s a tough league, it plays faster, stronger. So, we got a lot of work to do, because I know what it’s like up there.”
The Coach went on to share, “Hopefully, we can get the required bodies in, in terms of personnel transfers and get our preparation going into the Elite League correct. We have to get it 100 per cent right to survive the Elite League. But I got all faith in my players, I got a strong administration staff behind me, so, we will work and hopefully, Camptown is here to stay.”
Sharing a bit of what to expect with this publication, Allen disclosed that he already has new artillery in his arsenal.
He divulged to this publication, “I’ll give you a little secret, let a little cat out the bag, I already have six transfers in my card, players we couldn’t use for this playoff, so that’s six and we’ll definitely be bringing some more payers. ‘Cause like I said, we got to be stronger. I’m not going to fool myself and tell myself we can go and do extremely well in the Elite League: you got to improve in every area – personnel, physically, tactically. You got to improve and we will improve.”
Quizzed on whether or not he is intimidated about re-entering the League through the qualification process which saw Mainstay FC produce a horrendous run in the 2025 season, “Fluman” said ‘not on his watch’.
“That motivates me,” Allen responded cheekily, “It’s not going to happen with Camptown, not under my body, not on my watch, it ain’t happening with Camptown. That’s too much of goals, we ain’t got a pawn shop.”
The 2026/27 season of the Elite League is likely to get underway in August or September.
