A young businessman was lured to his death on Tuesday by his business associate and friend, who took him to a house in Middle Road, La Penitence, Georgetown where he bludgeoned him to death before escaping with $7.7 million.
Dead is 21-year-old Amit Singh. The suspect, Yogeendra Sukhdeo, a businessman known for his lavish lifestyle and social media boasts of opulence, was arrested Police said on Wednesday. Sukhdeo on his social media platforms claims to own several businesses namely El Dorado Mining and Security; El Dorado Landscaping Solutions, El Dorado Construction Inc and El Dorado Luxury and Rentals.
According to the reports, Singh was lured to a house at Middle Road, La Penitence, reportedly owned by Sukhdeo’s father, under the pretext he and three others had gold for sale. However, at the house Singh was bludgeoned and wrapped in a sheet and left in the house.

The suspect then escaped with the cash and locked the building, leaving Singh’s body inside. However, the police were called in after Singh did not return home and based on intelligence received, detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department arrested Sukhdeo and were taken the house where Singh’s body was recovered.
Sukhdeo reportedly confessed to the crime and led detectives to his house at Lot 1896, 20th Avenue, Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD), where a search was conducted in his room. Police found $7.7 million, all consisting of $5,000 bills.
According to a source close to the investigation, Singh was at his Campbellville, Georgetown home when Sukhdeo picked him up. Sukhdeo arrived in a black car with fake license plates and the men left for the Middle Road, La Penitence, Georgetown location for the gold purchase, which was ‘arranged’ by Sukhdeo.
During interrogation, Sukhdeo initially implicated three of his employees in the crime, suggesting a web of conspiracy. However, he later retracted this statement, claiming sole responsibility for the murder. The three persons were arrested but have since denied any involvement in the crime.

The money that was recovered by police

‘They all provided an account of their whereabouts at the time of the murder, and investigators are currently verifying their alibis,” a statement from Police read.
Singh is the son of the owner of D. Singh Trading, Campbellville, Georgetown.
