1 dead, 1 missing in Essequibo River boat mishap

The body of a businessman was discovered while the search is on for another man following a boat mishap at Quarawak Falls, Essequibo River, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) on Thursday.

Dead: Darmindra Dean

Dead is 53-year-old Darmindra Dean, a businessman of Aranaputa Valley, North Rupununi and of Chinese Landing, Essequibo River.
Missing is Roach Leo, 68, of Fair View Village, Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni).
The Police have not released any details surrounding the accident, but based on information received, at about 14:15h on Thursday, a team of Policemen visited the scene at Quarawak Falls, Essequibo River, where a search party was established. It was during the search that the body of Dean was recovered.
The body was reportedly found among tree branches on the right bank of the river. It was facing downwards with suspected fish bites on the left ear. The body was transported to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home to await a post mortem.
Meanwhile, the search continues for Leo, who is feared dead.
Only on Thursday, this publication reported that Harry Mangal, a 37-year-old farmer of Abrams Creek, Upper Pomeroon, went missing and is feared drowned after the canoe in which he was travelling collided with a wooden boat in Abrams Creek, Pomeroon River, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) on Tuesday night at about 21:00h.
Information reaching Guyana Times revealed that a wooden vessel powered by a 15-horsepower motor engine was returning to a destination in Abrams Creek when it collided with the small canoe that Mangal was paddling. As a result of the impact, Mangal was thrown into the Pomeroon River. Additional information revealed that his father was on a wharf not too far from where the collision occurred.
Police have since arrested the captain of the wooden boat, and a search party has been dispatched in search of Mangal.
