1-year-old crushed by falling tree

A one-year-old child is now dead after he was on Thursday crushed by a falling tree at “Cashew” Landing, Tasserene Backdam, Middle Mazaruni River in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).
The incident was confirmed by the Public Relations Unit of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Friday.
The now dead child, Onan Alfred, reportedly hailed from Tasserene Village, Middle Mazaruni River.
Based on reports received, the child was with his parents, Corsia Alfred, 18, and Ming Daniels, 30, a miner, walking from the Issano Landing when a strong gust of wind caused a tree to fall.
As a result, the toddler and his mother were pinned, thus causing them to sustain injuries. The child was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Issano Health Outpost where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The body is currently at the said institution awaiting a post-mortem.
It was reported that the child received Injuries to his head and upper back, while his mother sustained injuries to her foot. She was later referred to the Bartica Regional Hospital for further medical attention. Investigations are ongoing.
Only a few days ago, 27-year-old Silas Allan Fredericks, a logger of Wakapao, Lower Pomeroon River, was crushed by a falling tree.
It was reported that the incident occurred at about 13:00h on Monday at Kaburi Backdam in Mazaruni.
According to information obtained, Fredericks was cutting a tree but did not realise that it was entangled in a large vine, which unexpectedly burst and caused the tree to fall. The falling tree pinned him to the ground, killing him instantly.
He was rushed to the Bartica Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
