107 new firefighters graduate from training programme

One hundred and seven new firefighters graduated on Friday from the Guyana Fire Service’s (GFS) Basic Recruit Course during a ceremony held at the GFS Training School at Leonora, West Coast Demerara (WCD). The graduates successfully completed the training programme, which prepares recruits for service within the GFS and equips them with the skills needed to respond to fires, emergencies and other incidents across the country. The graduation ceremony marked the official entry of the 107 recruits into the ranks of the GFS at a time when Guyana continues to experience rapid growth and development. During the ceremony, Home Affairs Minister Oneidge Walrond congratulated the graduates, commending them for their dedication and commitment throughout the training programme.

“Today, we proudly welcomed 107 new firefighters into the ranks of the Guyana Fire Service as they graduated from Basic Recruitment Course #01, 2026. Their journey reflects discipline, resilience and an unwavering commitment to service. As Guyana continues to grow and transform, these brave young men and women will play a vital role in protecting our people, communities and development. “Congratulations to the graduates. While fighting fires is your profession, saving lives is your mission,” Walrond stated. The Minister’s remarks highlighted the important role firefighters play in safeguarding lives and property, as well as supporting the country’s ongoing development. The newly graduated firefighters are expected to be deployed to fire stations across Guyana, where they will contribute to emergency response efforts and public safety initiatives.
