4 charged for murder of Corentyne businessman

Four persons have been arraigned for the murder of 49-year-old Lomenzo Johnny, whose battered body was discovered on February 27 a short distance away from his home.

Dead: Lomenzo Johnny

They are 27-year-old Satram Khuslay, called “Steve”, a cane harvester of Lot 80 Hampshire, Corentyne; 30-year-old Billal Mc Lennon, a labourer of Moora Street, Swamp Section, Rose Hall Town Corentyne; 24-year-old Gopaul Ramgobin, called “Ling”, a hire car driver of Lot 170 Tain Village Corentyne, and 24-year-old Navindra Narain, called “Husk”, a hire car driver of Lot 28 Tain Settlement, Corentyne.
The four men appeared before Magistrate Alex Moore at the Number 51 Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday and were not required to plea to the indictable charge which alleged that between Wednesday, February 26, and Thursday, February 27, they murdered Johnny at Rose Hall Town, Corentyne. The matter was adjourned to April 17 and has been transferred to the Albion Magistrate’s Court.
Johnny, called “Sham”, of Lot 11 Portuguese Quarters, Corentyne, operated a grocery store located in the same yard as his home.
On February 27, his body was discovered in a yard where a building was under construction; it was located some 400 metres from his home.
His feet were bound together with a shoelace. The sweater he was seen wearing the evening before was found a few feet away from the body.
A pair of scissors and a piece of wood were also found near to the body. There was a wound to the back, bruises to his hand, while his head and face appeared to be swollen.
When Police went to his home, they found that the front door was not locked. The inside of the house was ransacked. A safe along with other items were reportedly removed from the building. Investigators subsequently received information about the whereabouts of the safe, which contained an undisclosed amount of cash.
One person was subsequently arrested and provided investigators with the name of the three other men who reportedly assisted with the crime.
One of the suspects reportedly confessed that they had intended to rob Johnny but it was because he knew two of them that they decided to kill him.
After committing the act, they removed the house keys from his pockets and entered the building.
Police have since issued a wanted bulletin for Daniel McLennon, called “Dutty” of Lot 153 Third Street, Swamp Section, Rose Hall, Corentyne, in connection with the crime.
