Alabama, Vicadi Singh, Carlvin Burnette, and Vinel Hinds were crowned winners of the Dancehall, Chutney, and Adult and Junior Soca Monarch competitions respectively, which took place over the weekend.

Each of the riveting competitions saw a head-to-head battle where scores of patrons were immersed in energy-filled performances as 15 persons took part in the Dancehall Monarch, 8 in the Junior Soca Monarch, and 14 in the Adult Soca Monarch.
Kick-starting the intensity was the Junior Calypso Monarch contest, which was held on Friday night at the Tabatinga Ground in Lethem.
Hinds won first place with 262 points for the song “Calling my name,” second place went to Theodora Dehnert Kyra with 256 points for the song “Looking Fuh Mass,” and third position was awarded to Teija Edwards with 248 points for “Keep Jammin’ On”.

Shortly after, the Adult Soca Monarch contestants got their chance to experience the limelight. The results saw Burnette in first position with 277 points, and in second, with a tie for 272 points, were Dianna Chapman and Osei Clarkman.
Meanwhile, in the Chutney Monarch competition, held at the Anna Regina Car Park, first place went to the veteran Vicadi Singh with 261 points, Bunty Singh was second with 259 points, and Vanita Willie in third with 256 points.

Coming to the close of the jam-packed weekend but still keeping the high standards, on Sunday, Alabama took first place in the Dancehall Monarch contest with the song “One Dan”, which had the entire crowd moving in excitement and racked up 273 points. Then coming in at second was Mattick Queen with the song “Woman Empowerment” (227 points), and in third was Fame A with the song “Rich Life” (226 points).

The party, however, did not end until the wee hours of Monday morning as a few minutes after the announcement of the winners, the deejays began juggling a collection of music, leaving the crowd swaying with vibes. (G2)
