A 26-year-old woman from Agricola, Greater Georgetown, is now being treated for a gunshot wound at the Georgetown Public Hospital after being caught in the crossfire between two armed men in the said village on Saturday evening.
Injured is Aisha Everley, of Lot 65 Freeman Street, Agricola, who was shot to her leg around 21:00h.
Based on information received, the two villagers – who are yet to be identified by Police – were involved in a heated argument.
However, Guyana Times understands that as the argument escalated the two men whipped out their handguns and began to direct gunshots at each other.
Everley, who was a bystander, reportedly started to run for cover, but was subsequently shot.
Public-spirited persons rushed the woman to the Georgetown Public Hospital while the two men fled the scene. She is said to be in stable condition. She is scheduled to undergo surgery to remove the bullet still lodged in her leg.
Police sources have confirmed that it is believed that one of the suspects may have been shot as well, since evidence of injuries (blood) was found at a different location from where the woman was shot.
Investigations are ongoing into the matter and the Police are trying to find the two perpetrators. (Kizzy Coleman)
