Another ganja farm destroyed

A joint operation, comprising ranks of the Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Defence Force, on Saturday saw the destruction of a field of marijuana plants and the discovery of an identification card.

the team of Police and soldiers ascended to Arou Mountain top, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) and successfully executed their plan.

During the drug-eradication exercise, a quarter-acre plot of cultivated cannabis, with plants measuring from six inches to six feet in height, a makeshift camp, as well as a quantity of dried cannabis, were found and destroyed by fire.

In addition, the law enforcement officers discovered a live 12-gauge cartridge and an identification card in the camp, both of which have been collected as evidence.

No arrests have been made. Meanwhile, a 21-year-old South Ruimveldt, Georgetown man was on Friday arrested after Police swooped down on a marijuana field at Wisroc, Linden.

Police stated that between 16:30h and 18:00h, ranks of the Police Narcotics Branch conducted a drug eradication exercise in Wisroc, during which several acres of cultivated cannabis were discovered.

A total of 5300 of the illegal plants, ranging from six inches to five feet tall, were found and destroyed by ranks. Two makeshift camps were also found and burnt.

The Georgetown resident who was on the farm at the time of the raid was taken into Police custody. He is being processed for court.
