The Guyana Horse Racing Committee will host an 11-race card – the Arrival and Labour Day Cup – at the Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club, Bush Lot, on Sunday, May 3.
Due to the cancellation of the Easter Cup after heavy rainfall, the Arrival and Labour Day meet will be the second nomination day for the August 23 Guyana Cup.
More than GY$10 million will be up for the taking, and some of the top horses are confirmed for the races. The likes of Olympic Kremlin, Stat, MAPA do Brasil, Front Line Warrior, among others.
The feature race will run at 1 1/8 miles, and it will be open to all horses three years old and over. A total purse of GY$4 million will be up for grabs, and the top horse will earn a nomination for the Guyana Cup and bag GY$2 million.
The Arrival Day sprint will be open to all three-year-old and older horses and will be running at five furlongs. The three-year-old imported opener will run at six furlongs.

Other races on the card include the F Class and Lower, a three-year-old Guyana-bred open million-dollar mile; G Class and Lower West Indian-bred non-winners since August 2024; three-year-old and over West Indian-bred winners; I Class and Lower; L Class winners; and K & L Maidens open to Guyana-bred first-time starters. There will also be a Grooms Derby, open to all ages.
Entries for the Arrival and Labour Day races open on April 28 and will close on April 30. This race will run under the Guyana rules of racing.
This race meet will be of great importance, as most of the horses had a break from racing. All the lengthy preparations will be tested at Kennard’s Memorial as the historic day for the Guyana Cup approaches.
