Barbados, Trinidad among teams announced for upcoming tournament

– Matthews to lead Barbados

The fixtures of the upcoming Cricket West Indies (CWI) Regional female tournament is expected to commence from March 17 to April 4. It will be a mega event that will feature all the best Women cricketers in the Caribbean with Guyana as host country.

Recently, Barbados and Trinidad are among the teams to announce their squads to tour Guyana to participate in the Regional tournaments. The matches will be played in two formats, T20 Blaze and Super 50. Earlier, it was revealed that the venues considered to play these matches are the National Stadium Providence, Georgetown Cricket Club Bourda, Everest Cricket Club and Enmore ground is under inspection to host matches.
The T20 version of the tournament will be played entirely at the National Stadium Providence which will be played under the lights. In the latter part of February, Trinidad and Tobago has announced a 14-member squad to play the CWI Regional tournaments in Guyana. The team looks well-balanced with the experience Merissa Aguilleira leading the team. The team also features Windies Women’s stars in spin Queen, Anisa Mohammed, Britney Cooper, Stacy Ann King and Windies newbie, Karishma Ramharack.

Meanwhile, Barbados made their squad announcement in the past week; it was announced that Hayley Matthews will lead the star-studded Barbados team. The Barbados team that will be coming to Guyana features six Windies Women’s stars in Shakira Selman, Deandra Dottin, Shamilia Connell and the Knight Twin sisters, Kycia and Kyshonna.

In the T20 Women’s ranking Barbados’ Deandra Dottin is number three on the batting charts while Matthew’s is in the top 20 of the top batters in the world. However, the Guyana team that is yet to be announced is tipped to put up a good show with star players and enjoying home conditions. The likely Shemaine Campbelle is expected to be available to lead the Guyana ladies.

The Guyana team that played the Regional tournaments in 2018 in Jamaica included Windies National players in Tremayne Smartt, Erva Giddings, Sheneta Grimmond, Shabika Gajnabi, Akze Thompson, Subrina Munroe, Plaffiana Millington, Cherry-Ann Fraser, Mandy Mangru, Kaysia Schultz among others.
