A 36-year-old barber died on Tuesday after he lost control of the truck he was driving and crashed into a trench at Pumpkin Dam, Canal Polder Number One, West Bank Demerara (WBD).
Dead is Ghansham Ravi Hardyal.
According to Regional Police Commander (ag), Assistant Commissioner Simon McBean, Hardyal was “proceeding south on Pumpkin Dam, Canal Number One at about 06:00h when he approached a wooden bridge and lost control”.
Reports revealed that the truck Hardyal was driving capsized when it plunged into the trench, pinning him underwater .
The father of one was pulled out by public-spirited citizens and rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH), where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Doll Hardyal, the dead man’s wife, told the media that Hardyal usually assisted a farmer in taking his workers into the backdam daily.
The accident occurred when Hardyal was on his way home.
Hardyal had been a barber for over 19 years, and was described by his family members as a “helpful person”.
