GCB senior female Inter-county T20…

– Demerara, Essequibo battle in afternoon showdown

The best females in the country will continue to showcase their talent when the T20 segment of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) female senior inter-county tournament continues.
In the 50-over edition, Berbice won their sixth title, emerging victorious in both of their matches to end with nine points. The overwhelming favourites, Berbice will play their first T20 match at Everest starting from 09:30h against the GCB Select

Under-19.
In the other fixture scheduled to play after the Berbice and Select Under-19 clash at the same Everest venue, Demerara will clash with the Essequibo team.
The Berbice team will be led by Tremayne Smartt and her deputy will be Erva Giddings. Both Smartt and Giddings had five-wicket hauls and captured player-of-the-match awards in the 50-over tournament.

game and they will be looking to replicate their performances. Their opponents will be the upbeat GCB Select Under-19 team, which thumped Essequibo in their 50-over match. GCB Select Under-19 ended with five points in the 50-over tournament along with Demerara but the latter had the better net run rate of 3.57. Shabika Gajnabi will be leading the team that features star performers in Cherry An Fraser, Mandy Mangru and Africa Gentle.
Meanwhile, Demerara will be aiming to brush aside the Essequibo team that lost both of their matches in the 50-over tournament. The Demerara team have the fire-power in Akaze Thompson and Temica Wilson, who both scored centuries. In Essequibo’s dull performances in the 50-over contest, there have been glimpses of promise, in Captain Lisa Charles, who is no joke with the bat in hand. The fairly young team will play the experienced Demerara team in the second of the double-header fixture at the Everest Cricket Club. (Brandon Corlette)
