Bucket seats installation to commence soon at Sports Hall

The long-awaited installation of bucket seats at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) is set to come on stream in a matter of weeks, Sport Minister Charles Ramson Jr announced on Monday.
Ramson Jr was, at the time of the announcement, responding to inquiries from media personnel regarding the visible works going on at the Homestretch Avenue, Georgetown venue.
He announced, “Having said that though, you have some major things happening with the facility very soon, which would be the seats. The bucket seats are here; they’re going to start the installation very soon.”

While the aim is to have the seating completed for the upcoming Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Men’s Championships, slated for July 8-12, the Minister admitted that he was not too keen to rush the process.
“We’re aiming to get it completed before the tournament starts, but it’s a touch-and-go situation. I don’t want them to rush without it being done because once it’s done, it’s done. Thousands of people will be using it all the time, so I’m not forcing them to hurry on the installation, but at the same time, I would like to see it completed before,” the Sport Minister explained.
The Sport Minister went on to address the need for continued minor renovations at such facilities.

A look at the works that began on the CASH bleachers this week

“Obviously, when you want to host anything, you want to make sure that you’re showing the country in the best possible light. We’ve had some situations that arose in the previous instances. We host so many now, it kind of feels like every week we’re hosting something new, but obviously, things happen. You can prepare as much as you want to, but things have a way of sneaking up on you without you knowing it would be a problem. So, we just try to ensure that we don’t paint the country in a bad light,” Ramson Jr said.
The Minister added, “It is a privilege and an opportunity as well to host any of these international tournaments but it’s also an opportunity for us to show the country in the best possible light. So, that’s why we do these minor renovations.”
The bucket seating is expected to blanket the current bleachers to the east and west of the CASH court. Additional seating is expected to be installed at the south end of the building where concessions are usually housed.
