Central, Amelia’s Ward share spoils; Silvertown run riot – Linden Inter-Ward Football…

Football fans were treated to an exciting double-header on Monday night as the Linden Town Week Inter-Ward Football Tournament continued at the Bayroc Stadium in Linden.
The tournament, presented by the Kashif & Shanghai Organisation in collaboration with the Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA), forms part of the annual Town Week celebrations and is supported by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport. With six wards competing and a lucrative $2 million prize purse at stake, anticipation was high for the second night’s fixtures.
The opening match of the night featuring Central & South Mackenzie & Mines taking on Amelia’s Ward/Kara Kara/Bamia ended in a 0–0 stalemate after a tightly contested affair.

Goalscorers for Silvertown/Canvas City/West Watooka

Both sides showed flashes of attacking intent but were ultimately unable to break the deadlock. Defensive discipline and solid goalkeeping defined the encounter, as neither team managed to convert their chances. The result leaves Group A wide open heading into the next round of matches.
In the second game, Silvertown/West Watooka/Canvas City delivered a commanding performance to defeat Wisroc/Block 22 by a convincing 4–1 margin.
Shemiah Samuels opened the scoring with a well-taken goal to set the tone. Shane Haynes then stamped his authority on the contest with a clinical brace, demonstrating sharp finishing inside the box. Azainneo Benjamin added the fourth to cap off an impressive team display.
Wisroc/Block 22 managed a consolation goal through Errol McCalmon, who found the back of the net to briefly spark hope, but Silvertown’s attacking prowess proved too much on the night.
The emphatic victory ensures Silvertown/Canvas City has a chance to advance in Group B, while Wisroc/Block 22 will need a strong response in their upcoming fixture.
The tournament continues on Wednesday, April 29, with crucial Group A and Group B encounters.
In Group B action from 18:00h, Blueberry Hill/Christianburg/Alleys & Valleys will clash with Block 22/Wisroc as both teams look to secure valuable points.
Later, at 20:30h in a key Group A showdown, Half Mile/One Mile/Scheme will face Amelia’s Ward/Kara Kara/Bamia. With Amelia’s Ward coming off a draw in their opener, they will be eager to claim maximum points and strengthen their position in the standings.
As Linden Town Week festivities continue, supporters can expect more thrilling football under the lights at Bayroc, with pride, community bragging rights, and a multimillion-dollar prize on the line.
