The Police are investigating several armed robberies which occurred over the past two days where persons were relieved of their valuables.
Police stated that on Monday, a businessmen and a security guard were attacked and robbed by three gunmen who invaded the RI RI FU supermarket at Friendship, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
Based on reports received, about 07:20h on the day in question, the businessman opened the supermarket and went to the cash register where he observed three men walking into the establishment.
The Police stated that the men assaulted the unarmed security guard, causing him to fall to the floor. The perpetrators then tied him up along with the businessman, and placed them on the floor but not before terrorising the businessman.
The bandits eventually made off with $660,000 in cash; a quantity of Digicel phone cards valued $120,000; and three cell phones.
A female employee, after arriving at work, discovered the men lying on the ground and as such untied them. The matter was subsequently reported to the Police.
Also on Monday, a 31-year-old taxi driver attached to the GR Taxi Service was robbed by three armed bandits who posed as passengers.
The incident occurred at around 19:45h at First Street, Agricola, Greater Georgetown.
Based on reports gathered, the taxi driver picked up two men and a woman who requested to be taken to Agricola, Greater Georgetown.
Upon their arrival at their destination, one of the suspects, who was seated in the front passenger seat, placed the gearstick into park. At that time, one of them held the taxi driver at gunpoint while the other two suspects searched the vehicle.
The men relieved the man of a Samsung J7 smartphone, and black wallet containing $10,000 in cash and documents.
One of the perpetrators then lashed the taxi driver to his head after which they made good their escape on foot. A report was made at the Agricola Police Outpost. However, during a Police patrol, the victim pointed out one of the suspects. He was arrested and is assisting Police in their investigations.
Meanwhile, also on Monday, an Enmore, East Coast Demerara (ECD) woman was robbed of her jewellery while at the Enmore bus park in Georgetown.
Police stated that the victim was reportedly sitting in a parked minibus when the bandit pushed his hand through the window and grabbed the gold band she was wearing at the time.
