Corentyne suspected arson leaves 1 homeless

One person has been rendered homeless after a fire destroyed a single-storey building at Number 71 Village, Corentyne, Region Six (East Berbice/Corentyne) on Friday evening.

Pushputti Bridgelall, who had owned the building, told this publication that she saw flames emanating from the building at about 23:00h.
According to Bridgelall, after her daughter had passed away eight years ago, she had moved out of the building, leaving her husband at the property.
“Richard was living in the house, and last night (Friday) he did not sleep there; he sleep at we bottom house in a hammock,” she explained.
She related that her ex-husband had been involved in a heated argument with one of her cousins, who had threatened to set the house on fire to kill him. Out of fear, her ex-husband Richard did not sleep in the house, but he was awakened after an alarm was raised that his house was on fire.
“My son open the window and see the fire in our house, which is right behind where we living, and he shout and wake me up,” the woman explained.
The fire tenders were summoned to the scene, but by the time they arrived, the house was completely razed.
An investigation has been launched into the fire, and Police are hunting the suspected arsonist.
