Defending T20 Blaze champions depart for SVG with eyes set on double glory

The Guyanese Women’s Cricket team departed local shores on Saturday for St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) with the aim of defending their CWI Regional T20 Blaze title and winning the Regional 50-Over Championship.
The team left in high spirits following a period of structured preparation and team bonding during an intensive encampment held between the Everest Cricket Ground in Georgetown and the Lusignan Cricket Ground on the East Coast of Demerara.

The encampment, which ran over six days, focused on technical skills, tactical execution, fitness conditioning, and match-simulation exercises as the players prepared to defend their Regional T20 Blaze title while also targeting success in the 50-over format.
The Guyana squad will be under the watchful eyes of Head Coach Tremaine Smartt and her deputy, Clive Grimmond, with experienced West Indies international Shemaine Campbelle Captaining the side.
The team comprises Shemaine Campbelle (Captain), Ashmini Munisar (Vice Captain), Shabika Gajnabi, Sheneta Grimmond, Realeanna Grimmond, Nyia Latchman, Kaysia Schultz, Laurene Williams, Latoya Williams, Analesia D’Aguiar, Plaffianna Millington, Mandy Mangru, Feona Benjamin, and Tremaine Marks.
The Regional T20 Blaze will be contested first, followed by the Regional 50-over Championship, providing the Guyanese players with an opportunity to compete across formats against the region’s top women’s teams.
Guyana will open the tournament batting against the Windward Islands on January 13 at 09:00h. The senior ladies will then match bats with the Leeward Islands at 19:00h before concluding the T20 Blaze against Barbados at 14:30h. All matches will be played at the Arnos Vale Cricket Stadium.
The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) has expressed strong confidence in the experienced Shemaine Campbelle-led Guyana squad, noting that the defending champions are focused, well-prepared, and ready to defend their title.
The President of the GCB, Bissoondyal Singh, stated that the team’s blend of experience, leadership, and depth has created a positive and confident environment, with players showing strong commitment throughout their preparations.
He emphasised that the GCB is fully confident in the squad’s readiness and believes the team is well-positioned to perform creditably while proudly representing the nation and defending their title as champions.
