The Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) has strengthened its push to expand motorsport in the region following high-level discussions with the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) during the recent Miami Grand Prix.
GMR&SC President Mohamed Shairaz Roshandin engaged FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem in talks focused on advancing motorsport across the Caribbean and Latin America. According to Roshandin, the discussions were constructive and centred on long-term growth and opportunities within the region.
Roshandin noted that the meeting provided a platform to outline the direction for regional racing, expressing confidence that the sport is poised for significant development. He described the engagement as “fruitful”, adding that the future of Caribbean and Latin American motorsport appears promising.
The discussions come on the heels of Guyana securing the hosting rights for the upcoming GT3 Americas Challenge, an initiative expected to mark a major milestone for local motorsport. The event is scheduled for July 11–12, 2026, and is anticipated to elevate Guyana’s profile on the international racing calendar.
In preparation for the event, work is ongoing to upgrade the South Dakota Circuit to meet GT3 standards. The infrastructural improvements are expected to not only facilitate the staging of the event but also contribute to the long-term growth and development of motorsport in Guyana.
The meeting with the FIA and the upcoming GT3 event collectively signal a period of expansion and increased investment in the sport, as GMR&SC continues efforts to position Guyana as a key hub for motorsport in the region.
